Leona G. Shankle, Author
Hello and welcome to dellgirlpublishing.com,
home of the new book - "At the Starting Gate."
Our goal is to inspire would-be-authors, and
publishers who dare to dream in the later
seasons of life.
We want you to know that your dream is
"do-able" no matter how late it may seem
to you.
As a self-proclaimed late-blooming-beginning
writer, I am proud to step into the world of writing and self-publishing to share what I have learned along the way. I strongly believe that as I continue my research and as I study to provide assistance to others, we will all learn together and benefit from the experience of sharing.
Retired teacher, Leona G. Shankle, turned writer and first time author, emerges from a forty-year journey through young adulthood, marriage and motherhood, and teaching and mentoring with a new mission. That mission is to encourage others who have put their dreams on hold or on the back burner of life to reach for their dreams. If you have ever thought about writing a book, then Leona’s new book is a must have. Leona introduces her book, "At the Starting Gate", a collection of her poetry and short stories.
After proclaiming time after time that she wanted to write a story or a book, Leona said “time to put up or shut up” and decided to “do it” instead of talking about it. With the fire inside rekindled to a roaring blaze, Leona wrote this book to finally get her story told.
Leona’s short stories and poetry collection will inspire you to getting started writing your book. It will help you stay motivated while you do it. Her book is an example aspiring authors can hold, read, examine, and critique. This captivating book provides new writers tangible evidence that they too can write a book.
A native Texan, Leona was born and grew up in Jasper, Texas and attended Prairie View A. & M. University, majoring in Elementary Education. She has lived in Houston over thirty years. A deep sense of her East Texas roots, combined with the natural ability to engage her readers and draw them “into-the-moment” with her words, reverberates throughout this mesmerizing collection.
Leona took the long way home – to writing her first book. Round-about though it was, her journey’s ultimate mission provides a model for you to relate to and start writing your own book.
